Greetings:

My department has typically provided release time to me as the Internship Coordinator (i.e., 3 credits each fall and spring semester, and 1 credit in the summer) for the variety of duties connected to this position.  There is now discussion that the same duties will have to be performed for 0.2 to 0.4 credit per student enrolled.

I'm curious how others who serve in this capacity are compensated.

Thanks!

Nancy Parsons

This is a great question and I look forward to others answers also. Here at the University of Utah we count it as one teaching assignment per semester just as though it was a traditional class.

Nancy: I am happy for you Western Illinois appreciates how hard it is to carry out these duties. I place around 50 HPE majors in health classes (Field experience) each semester and receive no release time or extra compensation. Field counts as one class and we teach 4 classes (12 credit hrs) here at SRU.  In addition, I coordinate the Community Health program and oversee the placement of Interns (summer only...usually around 16-20). No release time or money for these duties either although I am paid for each Intern I supervise directly over the summer. Our University's funding formula is driven by student credit hours and , asuming the same funding dynamics at Western, I can see how your admin. is looking to cut release time and generate additional credit hour revenue.
