Hi colleagues,
I have been asked to teach a master's level course called "Design and Evaluation of Health Campaigns". While I know the topic very well, I have not taught the course before. If you have a syllabus you are willing to share, resources you recommend, or ideas on assignments & readings that have worked well in your classes, could you please pass them along?
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Kind regards,
Suzanne

Two reports this week tell us that we in public health need to figure out our role in politics really fast. 1. From the Environmental Defense Fund: Coping with Looming Health Dangers Are We Ready?
A new Environmental Defense Fund report, Are We Ready? Preparing for the Public Health Challenges of Climate Change [PDF], reveals critical gaps in our public health system's ability to respond to growing health threats from climate change. Alarmingly, funding for general public health preparedness has been steadily declining in recent years, with a 25 percent cut proposed in President Bush’s 2008 budget.

2 From the Union of concerned scientists: Interference at the EPA The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) to investigate political interference in science at the EPA. The investigation combines dozens of interviews with current and former EPA staff, analysis of government documents, more than 1,600 responses to a survey sent to current EPA scientists, and written comments from EPA scientists.  The results of these investigations show an agency under siege from political pressures. On numerous issues—ranging from mercury pollution to groundwater contamination to climate change—political appointees have edited scientific documents, manipulated scientific assessments, and generally sought to undermine the science behind dozens of EPA regulations.Â
