Subject: Reviewer List for Poems in Health Promotion Book: Sustainability
Dear HEDIR Friends:
Last year, I sent out an announcement to HEDIR to request participation in reviewing a student book, Poems in Health Promotion: Sustainability. The book was published this summer, and I HAVE NOT sent out copies of the book to those who responded to the request because I lost all of the information from my computer, including all of my e-mails for the last year. Our university computer people crashed my hard drive, and all of the reviewer information was lost.
If you responded to my request last year, even though you were not asked to review parts of the manuscript, please e-mail me with your complete mailing address. I will get out a copy of the book to you. I believe there were about 15-20 people who responded.
Also, I will send you a handout of a poster I recently presented on student engagement in computer applications courses using health promotion book publishing projects.
Thanks.
Mark

Subject: Thank You HEDIR Reviewers - Intergenerational Health Book
I want to thank the following people from HEDIR who served as reviewers for the book my computer students published this semester (see below). Copies of the book are in the mail.

Jeanne M. Freeman, PhD, CHES (Western Washington University)
Mario D. Garrett, PhD (San Diego State University)
Mary Jane Tremethick, PhD, RN, CHES (Northern Michigan University)
My Favorite Elementary School Teachers
Also, for those who served as reviewers for the book this fall 2008, “My Favorite Elementary School Teachers: Stories Told by Chico State Students”, I will be contacting you next month. We’re running behind schedule, but should have the manuscript done this month. I will send you a copy of the book probably next month.
Spring 2009 Reviewer Opportunities
Tentatively, my health education computer students (two sections) will be required to publish two books next semester to fulfill the desktop publish component of the course, and we’ll need volunteers to review the books. Please contact me if you are interested. I’ll need name, title, institution, address. You will be sent parts of the manuscript by e-mail for review. After the book is published in soft cover, you will be sent a copy. The books will be completed by the end of the spring 2009 semester.
1. Life as an African American Woman Living in Poverty - the students will interview an African American woman living in poverty, will write her story, and write a free verse poem about her life at the end of the chapter. We need reviewers in the areas of African American, multicultural, or women’s studies. I haven’t decided yet if we will interview elderly African American women, if so, we could use gerontology reviewers also.
2. The Chico Bear Adventures – I’m writing the first three chapters of a new children’s book for sixth grade. The students will be assigned to continue the “adventure” by writing their own chapters (groups of two to three students per chapter) that further develop the characters and storyline. Their stories must teach children lessons about family/social, psychological, and spiritual health, and must be consistent with the California Health Framework Curriculum Guide for grade 6. We need reviewers in the areas of child development or school health.
Thanks.
Mark
