Your comments below triggered an immediate response in me, not a very Chritsmassy one though. It would be great to participate in the blog but I barely have time to breath! I will not comment on how much I hate being chastised by someone who doesn't know the demands on other people's time, or the stressors in their personal lives that demand a great amount of time, like my husband having stage 4 colon cancer, or any of the other myriad things that prevent me from blogging about important things like the Health Education Hall of Fame! I won't comment, no I won't. I'll just hit delete like so many people recommend when you read something that irritates you. So Bill Cissell, you have been deleted! Take That! ;)
Happy Holidays to everyone on the HEDIR!

Paul,
As one who is research impaired, it took me three different research methods courses -one in my MPH, one in my MA program, and one "just for the heck of it" -- before I started to get the concepts of research methods. It was the "just for the heck of it" course that I took from Mel Hovell at SDSU where, for me, the lightbulb went on (as dim as it still is). The text that Mel had us buy was "Designing Clinical Research: An epidemiologic approach" by Hulley and Cummings. I still reference it today. However, it is now in the thrid edition and looks to be 150 pages longer than the copy on my bookshelf... And though it was clinical research-based it does a great job breaking down complex research ideas.
not sure if it helps but it is a mediocre researcher student perspective of 12 years ago.
