Greetings this Sunday morning,
Southern Illinois is recovering from our major ice storm and with temperatures in the mid 50s today this should help immensely. There are several pockets still without electricity (the ice storm hit Monday).fortunately, yours truly was able to maintain power throughout this ordeal.
I just wanted to alert everybody that the HEDIR directory has been updated.
When you have a chance, go to
www.hedir.org/directory and check to see if your information is correct. If it's not, please click the subscribe/update button. This directory has about 3000 health educators and it's only good if it's accurate. Please make sure that your name isn't listed twice (if it is, please let me know). Also, check to see if your name comes up with the STATE or interest areas. While you are reviewing, if you see a name of somebody who has left, been abducted by aliens, or otherwise no longer where it claims, please let me know. There are many who drop from the HEDIR list (for whatever reason) and they don't know that their name is still listed on this HEDIR directory. Also, I encourage you to consider submitting a picture so it can be placed on the HEDIR Who's Who page (
www.hedir.org/people).Finally, please keep the good folks at Northern Illinois University in your thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine the pain that must be going through this campus. It is also a reminder that we, as health educators, can play a critical role in the emergency planning issues of your respective organizations (who better at planning than a health educator). In fact, I've created a way to send thousands of text messages to cell phones via one's email system.at little or no cost. There are companies cashing in on this and charging thousands of dollars. If you want to hear more about this, please contact me.
Have a good week.

On Feb. 12, PHANYC and GNYSOPHE co-hosted, with many other organizations including some universities and hospitals, our first program on PH Certification.
I can't underscore enough the importance of sharing this information and, above all, allowing time for questions, comments, etc. As we all remember from the CHES experience, communication is key.
CHES will also need to think about how many certifications they can maintain. Our speaker said that recertification requirements/details were not yet available - there will be something, but there are no specifics yet.
CHES who have graduated from a CEPH accredited school or program in public health will need to know, I think, before April when the registration ($400
now) period ends what it will take to maintain the CPH as well as the CHES credential.
