I did not see Richard claim that it was peer reviewed. In fact he said it was a news item. Biased? Probably. But so is the Washington Post, the Wall street Journal and the ever quoted New York Times... Valid?
Maybe. The note seems to indicate that a private research firm conducted the polling. My concern would be with the methodology of the researcher... not the news reporting organization.

Colleagues-
Another colleague of mine and myself have co-authored a new Health Methods textbook. The publishing company with whom we have a contract requested that we submit the names of possible reviewers, which we did. After the publishers made contact with those potential reviewers it appeared that their schedules did not permit the time to engage in such a task. Since then, the publishing company editors again came to us for additional suggestions of potential reviewers.
If any of you are interested and have the time, would you please get back to me as soon as possible and then I will forward your name on to the publishing company staff. They will then follow-up with contacting you directly.
Thanks for your assistance.

Good Afternoon,
I manage a childhood obesity program where I teach students how to eat healthfully and be more physically active. One of my kids asked me how to control their cravings and how to have willpower when people offer them unhealthy foods (this is a 5th grader). I haven't been able to find many tools for teaching young kids about willpower and self-control. I was hoping someone on this listserv may have some resources.

I agree, having been prayed for, lied about and in general harassed for my religious views it is important in a country where we can take a stand that we do. One can take a stand for a choice of how we express our beliefs while respecting view of others.
I am reminded of the antidote "They came for my Jewish neighbor and I didn't speak out. They came for my black neighbor and I said nothing. They came for my elderly neighbor and then they came for my gay neighbor my voice was silent. Then they came for me and there was no one to speak out.
Don hit the nail on the head, the frustration and impatience is in-action.
My frustration is, that as health educators we are about prevention strategies and its clear we have numerous people, particularly in higher ed, that have clout. Why are we not taking action, possibly legislatively to assure health educators are seen as the required ingredient to healthy change in community and pay commensurate with the skills needed.
What are we doing to assure that the with health reform coming down the pike, programs require professional health educators not French teachers or social workers.
