Sigh, As I finish my Friday reading, I thought I might post just three more reasons why we need to be involved in politics as public health educators. How many more reasons do we need?

1. Scientists Take Complaints About Interference to Hill The Union of Concerned Scientists and the Endangered Species Coalition, are protesting what Francesca Grifo, director of the Scientific Integrity Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists in Washington, calls "the systematic dismantling of the Endangered Species Act through the manipulation and suppression of science."

2. Antidepressant Studies Unpublished The makers of antidepressants like Prozac and Paxil never published the results of about a third of the drug trials that they conducted to win government approval, misleading doctors and consumers about the drugs’ true effectiveness, a new analysis has found.

3. Bush threatens to veto House mine-safety bill President Bush has vowed to veto the measure, which would require the Mine Safety and Health Administration to impose stricter fines for health and safety violations, add safeguards to the oft-criticized "retreat mining" practice, call for a reduction in black lung and other mining-related health issues and improve emergency response to disasters.

I think we need a president who stands above industry influence. For example, “The person who raised the most money from oil and gas companies is not a Republican. It's a Democrat. It's Sen. Clinton." Its time to take our country back.
