CNHEO Health Education Advocate Achievement Award
Deadline: February 20, 2008
Purpose: To recognize the achievement of a CNHEO Health Education Summit g= raduate in putting advocacy skills learned at the Summit into practice and = encouraging others to do the same.
1. Nomination Cover Letter (including required elements)
* Attended at least one Health Education Advocacy Summit.
* Demonstrated translation of advocacy principles into practice
* Engaged in health policy advocacy at the federal, state, or local=
levels for one year or more.
* Shown evidence of dissemination of advocacy knowledge and experie=
nce to encourage others' involvement.
2. Current membership in at least 1 CNHEO member organization. (Indicat=
e which of the following CNHEO organizations you have membership)
* Academy of Health Behavior
* American Association for Health Education
* American College Health Association
* American Public Health Association:
o Public Health Education and Health Promotion
o School Health Education Services

The 2008 Health Education Advocacy Summit Legislative Service Award
Deadline: February 20, 2008
Purpose: The Health Education Advocacy Summit Legislative Service Award rec= ognizes a member of the state or federal legislature who has made a signifi= cant contribution to the health education profession by influencing public = policy at the state or national level and by supporting and advancing the H= ealth Education Advocacy Summit's priorities.
1. 2008 Health Education Advocacy Summit Priorities
* Function 550
* Appropriations for CDC's National Center for Chronic Disease Prev=
ention & Health Promotion
* Appropriations for CDC's REACH US program
* Passage of Kennedy/Jackson Health Disparities Bill
2. Criteria and Requirements
The efforts of the individual must:
* Have resulted in public policy changes at the state or national l=
evel (through either legislative or administrative action) that have a sign= ificant, positive impact on the health education profession and the Health = Education Advocacy Summit's priorities
* Be consistent with the mission of the Health Education Advocacy S=
ummit
3. Nomination Guidelines
* Awards are presented when merited and therefore may not be presen=
ted every year.
* Normally, only one award will be presented; however, the awards c=
ommittee has the option of awarding multiple awards when merited.
* Deadline for nominations is FEBRUARY 20, 2008.
* Submit no more than 5 pages (double-spaced, 12 point font) addres=
sing the items listed under Nomination Specifics.

4. Nomination Specifics
* Provide the name, address, telephone, and email of both the nomin=

dual has helped to influence through his or her efforts and explain and des= cribe the realized or anticipated effects of the passage of this legislatio= n.
* Explain how the profession of health education most likely will b=
enefit from this legislation and how this fits with the Health Education Ad= vocacy Summit's priorities.
* Identify and describe the activities the individual undertook in =
one or more of the following areas: taking primary responsibility for intro= ducing and advancing a bill through Congress; offering an amendment to legi= slation; gathering information leading to the introduction and passage of l= egislation; presenting testimony that influenced the introduction or amendm= ent of legislation; exposing conditions or issues in hearings that result i= n administrative or legislative changes.
* Describe how the Nominee's service in the legislature has disting=
uished himself or herself by providing leadership in advancing or opposing = legislation consistent with the Health Education Advocacy Summit's prioriti= es.

The Call for Programs Deadline (March 21) is approaching for the National Conference on Social Norms that will take place in San Francisco, July 20-22, 2008.
This meeting focuses on various aspects of implementing a social norms strategy and examines Research, Audience, Data & Innovations of the Social Norms Approach. It is sponsored by the National Social Norms Institute & The BACCHUS Network.
The conference planning committee invites submissions focused on, but not limited to, the following areas: research and data on effective social norms programs, innovative strategies to reach intended audiences and applications of the approach with public health and safety issues beyond alcohol (e.g.,smoking, sexual assault and seat belt use).
