Hi Folks,
As of today, the HEDIR will accept attachments. For example, in this message you should see the HEDIR banner that Michaela Conley created for me. This might cause havoc for those who get the digest mode…if you have problems, let me know and I’ll ‘undigest’ you. I believe the newer configurations will enhance the HEDIR. Already my message looks better, huh?
On a more serious note, 2008 has not been good for our legends in health education. Earlier this year Elena Slipecevich and Bill Carlyon, both former SIU faculty, passed; a couple of weeks ago we heard of the passing of Peter Cortese, and just recently Murray Vincent. Of course, death is inevitable but it is still hard when the greats pass on. Our profession will always be appreciative of their contributions and the many others who are now retired, for their countless dedication to the health education profession. The one thing Health Education is incredibly weak on is our history (I mean, come on…the latest health education history book is Richard K. Means and that was published in the 60s?). This generation of health educators are blowing it by not putting down in an archive format the contributions of these individuals. Yes, I realize that there are some initiatives being done by some individuals/groups, but for many this is too little, too late. I would encourage you to think of a way that we can use the technology to preserve this history.
