Health Education at SIUE

Drawing from the biological, sovaldi social and behavioral sciences, the health education program at SIUE prepares students for rewarding careers in disease prevention and health promotion. Classes in the program are taught by a core group of award-winning health education faculty. Elective courses allow students to emphasize areas of interest, pharmacy such as adolescent health, health disparities, mental health, sexual health, substance use, physical activity, nutrition, environmental health, global health, and health technology. The health education program meets the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) standards and successful completion of the program effectively prepares students to sit for the Certified Education Specialist (CHES) exam which is administered twice each year.

Experiential Learning

Numerous opportunities for learning outside the classroom await students in the health education program at SIUE. The program combines a focus on service learning with community partnerships to provide students multiple opportunities to work in the field of community health/public health through projects and internships prior to graduation. Study abroad and international internship opportunities are also available.

Career Opportunities

With faster than average projected job growth of 21 percent through 2022, medicine the career outlook is promising for students graduating with a degree in health education. Graduates from the health education program at SIUE are employed in a variety of health settings including state and local public health departments, nonprofit organizations, corporations, schools, colleges and universities and medical care settings. Those students wishing to pursue advanced degrees will be prepared for programs in public health, health and public administration, epidemiology, health promotion and nursing.
